TBQ (Tom Baker Quartet) is... a group of like-minded improvising composers who crafted unusual and avant music from 2004-2011. Performing across the NW and in NYC with 2 critically acclaimed albums, TBQ featured Jesse Canterbury on clarinets, Greg Campbell on drums, Brian Cobb on bass, and Tom Baker on guitar.
(((Look for a TBQ reunion sometime in 2017)))
This is a long-time collaboration (15+ years) between composer Tom Baker and choreographer/filmmaker Corrie Befort. They have worked together to create full-length movement based works, works for film and video, and have spent the last few years developing a language of improvisation, a new "periodic table of aesthetic elements".
An improvising, electronic duo project with Anne LaBerge on flute and electronics; Tom Baker on guitar, theremin and electronics.
A new recording out soon, in the meantime, some sounds.
And a review of a concert in 2014.
The Seattle EXperimental Opera was co-founded in 1995 by Tom Baker, Christian Asplund, and Lara Candland. SExO has produced and premiered over 10 operas and chamber operas by Baker, Asplund, and Eyvind Kang, among others. With two productions of Baker's chamber "operatorios" in 2006 and 2009, SExO continues to formulate a new manifesto for opera in the 21st century.
Listen: Hunger - The Journey of Tamsen Donner
Upcoming: "Wings" - An Electronic Opera in Four Acts by Tom Baker (2018). Listen to an excerpt here.
A cast of Seattle improvisers and performers comes together every blue moon to honor and celebrate the music of the legendary space traveller. Featuring Stuart Dempster on trombone and William O. Smith on clarinet, this group has been featured on Seattle's Is That Jazz? Festival as well as the UW Music Series.
Keep an eye out for this creative but elusive band...
The Seattle Composers’ Salon fosters the development, performance and appreciation of new music by regional composers and performers. At bi-monthly, informal presentations, the Salon features finished works, previews, and works in progress. Composers, performers, and audience members gather in a casual setting that allows for experimentation and discussion. Everyone is welcome!
